I may die today
In the solitude of morning
as the sun reveals itself
burning off the night that clings to the frosted trees
The birds, without hesitation
opening their throats to swallow the light
Singing it out in their ecstasy
This may be the day I take leave of this
Twenty-six years
Walking the earth with my well-sewn cloak of immortality
long life ahead of me and waiting
for me to run into its open arms
for the breath and the body
the life and the love
for tomorrow
but this morning I stand naked
undressing my illusions of youth
of not me
someday
far from now
never
to stand at my door knowing
I do not know
to walk through anyway, unarmed as I am
opening up to swallow the sun
Every breath a life and a death
At the beginning and end of every inhale,
the body's unhesitant exhale
And one unending song
In the solitude of morning
as the sun reveals itself
burning off the night that clings to the frosted trees
The birds, without hesitation
opening their throats to swallow the light
Singing it out in their ecstasy
This may be the day I take leave of this
Twenty-six years
Walking the earth with my well-sewn cloak of immortality
long life ahead of me and waiting
for me to run into its open arms
for the breath and the body
the life and the love
for tomorrow
but this morning I stand naked
undressing my illusions of youth
of not me
someday
far from now
never
to stand at my door knowing
I do not know
to walk through anyway, unarmed as I am
opening up to swallow the sun
Every breath a life and a death
At the beginning and end of every inhale,
the body's unhesitant exhale
And one unending song
